The Catholic Community Foundation is pleased to introduce Eric Opiela as the incoming Chair of the Board of Directors. Eric is not a new face to CCF — he has served faithfully on the Board of Trustees since May 2013, bringing more than a decade of dedicated service, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to the Foundation’s mission. We are grateful that he steps into this leadership role with both institutional knowledge and a clear vision for the road ahead.
A Distinguished Career in Law and Public Service
Eric Opiela is a Board-Certified attorney with more than two decades of experience practicing legislative and campaign law. Throughout his career, he has represented candidates, officeholders, and campaigns at every level of government — from local courts to the United States Supreme Court. He currently serves on the Legislative and Campaign Law Commission for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and on the Civil Liberties and Civil Rights Section Council for the State Bar of Texas.
Eric holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin, along with undergraduate degrees in Government and History Honors — a foundation that has shaped his lifelong commitment to civic engagement and the rule of law.
A Life of Faith, Community, and Service
Beyond his legal career, Eric’s service to the broader community reflects a man of deep faith and genuine dedication. He serves as a gubernatorial appointee on the Texas Funeral Service Commission, as President of the South Texans’ Property Rights Association, Vice President of the Polish American Council of Texas, and as a Director of the Fr. Leopold Moczygemba Foundation. He additionally serves as the Texas Wing Legal Officer for the Civil Air Patrol.
His role as Treasurer of the Catholic Community Foundation of the Archdiocese of San Antonio further underscores the trust this community has placed in him — and the trust we are confident he will honor as Chair.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Hope
As the Foundation enters this new chapter, we do so with confidence in Eric’s leadership and excitement for the future he will help shape. His years of service, his breadth of experience, and his rootedness in faith make him uniquely prepared to guide CCF forward in its mission to connect generous donors with the emerging and existing needs of Catholic communities, ministries, and organizations throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
We welcome Eric Opiela as Chair and look forward to all that lies ahead. May God continue to bless this Foundation and all who serve it.
